Change The World Educate Girls

Weekly Update

Today, we started our devotional discussing the omnipotence and omnipresence of God. We discussed the recent events that occurred in Texas and the violence in our own communities. Then, we sang “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands. “ We ended our time by reading a devotional from Jesus Calling that reminded us that God is a Good Shepherd who guides and protects us. During science, the students learnt about the importance of the earth’s rotation and axis. Our experiment needed a very dark room and a flash light. The students had to turn around the light the first time, and the light turned around them the second time. We noticed that the light changed from light to dark depending on the position of the light source. The light represented the sun, and the students the earth. We discovered that the earth revolves around the sun as it rotates on its axis. Then, it was time for a break. We played a bit of 2-on-2 basketball. Afterwards, we began to learn about the marvelous cities founded along the Swahili coast during the Middle Ages with the great wealth gathered through merchant ships which traveled to and from India, Persia, and China. With trade in great amounts of gold, ivory, and spices, the merchant class emerged in the 8th to the 13th centuries and a golden age for East Africa arrived.Afterwards, it was time for math where we reviewed our numbers in French by counting bears and our multiplication tables. Then, we reviewed our French conversation. We ended our day with SSR (silent sustained reading) and a review of the day’s activities.
